Meet a Learning Experience Designer

Once you have signed on to teach an online or hybrid course at McGill School of Continuing Studies, you are entitled to a consultation with a learning experience designer (LX designer) at ISET. LX designers can help you with analyzing your learners’ needs, designing and developing course materials and activities, as well as determining an assessment strategy.

The Role of LX Designers and Instructors in the Course Design, Development and Delivery Process

Instructors and LX designers work in collaboration to create meaningful learning experiences for all online courses offered at SCS. The table below illustrates how their roles complement one another.

Your First Consultation with an LX designer

Your first consultation is a very important step in the course design process. Not only will you meet your assigned LX designer for the first time, you will also gain valuable information that will guide the course preparation process. Together you will discuss the following topics:

  • Your past experiences with online teaching
  • Your motivations, expectations, and concerns for teaching online
  • A brief overview of the course design process
  • Important deliverables and due dates
  • Instructional design and technical support available to you through ISET

In order to prepare for this meeting, we encourage you to explore our online teaching readiness quiz to reflect upon your current practice and level of comfort with technology.
