Aligning Course Components

As you create your course, it is important to ask yourself these three key questions:

  • What are my learning objectives?
  • What instructional activities will I use to help students achieve them?
  • How will I assess whether students have attained them?

Remembering that each of these elements is connected to the other is fundamental to good course design. Taking the time to map out clear learning objectives that connect to goal oriented instructional activities makes teaching more effective and enhances students’ learning. Furthermore, ensuring that assessments provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their attainment of the objectives sets them up for success!
